The current German journal “arthritis + rheumatism” focuses on digitization and telemedicine in rheumatology. Digitization has been an integral part of medicine and thus also of rheumatology not only since the COVID pandemic, although this has certainly contributed to the acceleration of development. Thus, the technical possibilities have improved rapidly in recent years. Many of us use digital applications in our personal but also increasingly in our clinical everyday life. Despite this development, the value of the new possibilities and applications is still comparatively little known. In order to take this process into account, the German Society of Rheumatology has appointed its own Digital Rheumatology Commission, which is aimed at supervising the digital development in the field and developing recommendations for the use of digitalization in rheumatology.
