Claus-Juergen Bauer, MD works as a consultant rheumatologist and deputy head at the Division of Rheumatology (Clinic for Internal Medicine III) at the University Hospital Bonn. He is also junior research group leader of the Translational Rheumatology Research Group Bonn (TARRAGON) and the Artificial Intelligence in Rheumatology Research Group (RheumAI).
Claus-Juergen Bauer completed medical studies at the University of Cologne (Germany), with stays abroad in Pittsburgh (USA) and London (United Kingdom). In his doctoral thesis, he conducted research in collaboration with Stanford University (USA) and the German Sport University Cologne. Under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Valentin Schaefer, Claus-Juergen Bauer has become a key representative of rheumatological research in Bonn with a variety of research projects under his responsibility and 21 congress abstracts accepted in 2023 alone. His particular scientific interest is in clinical and translational research in the field of rheumatology that implements innovative approaches and cutting-edge technology.
His scientific efforts related to AI application in GCA diagnosis have been accompanied by spotlight of the American College of Rheumatology (https://acr.tw/3FWH93k), a project feature in the EULAR 2025 press release (https://www.eular.org/document/download/1286/7b723e65-0df2-4fec-a940-78deb281cfb2/1196), previous preparational work published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (Doi: 10.1016/j.ard.2025.05.010) and a Poster Award of the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM).
Claus-Juergen Bauer is a member of several professional associations, such as the German Society for Rheumatology (DGRh), the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM) and the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA), and is a sought-after guest speaker at numerous training events and conferences.
